Senior Credit Analyst – Commercial Lending

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Vice President, Credit Administration Officer, The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst is to provide credit risk analysis support to the Commercial Lending Team by assessing and monitoring credit risk in the commercial loan portfolio. The key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, analyzing new and existing loans by researching and gathering information in order to prepare a loan presentation; and assigning and verifying the appropriate risk rating for new and existing borrowers while adhering to Bank policies, procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will have the capabilities to perform all responsibilities, possess strong attention to detail, critical thinking ability and accuracy, and have strong interpersonal, communication and computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts in-depth analysis of company financial statements to determine overall credit strengths and weaknesses of existing and potential borrowers, and guarantors. Analysis to include but not limited to evaluating repayment capacity and financial support of the primary obligor, trend analysis, collateral valuation, and global cash flow analysis as part of the guarantor analysis.
  • Perform credit analyses for renewals, modifications and extensions and new loan requests as required.
  • Review, analyze and interpret credit reports and personal financial statements.
  • Spread financial statements utilizing financial statement spreading software.
  • Accurately identify loan policy exceptions.
  • Prepare annual reviews, verification of risk ratings, and test covenant compliance.
  • Identify red flags during the analysis process (bankruptcies, late payments, past due taxes etc.) and bring those to the attention of the SVP Senior Credit Administration Officer.
  • Assist with the appraisal process, including maintaining list of approved appraisers, order appraisals, and review appraisals. Work with the appraisers for any corrective action. Prepare Internal Evaluations, when appropriate. Make certain that the underlying value of all collateral is current and reliable.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Watched Assets Reports.
  • Manage and facilitate the process of obtaining credit enhancements on loans as needed (Mass Cap, Small Business Administration, FHLBB Programs).
  • Oversees and manages financial information tracking and files to assure current financial information is logged and filed therein.
  • Prepare minutes of the monthly Loan Committee meetings
  • Provide assistance in the general administration of the commercial loan portfolio.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Commercial Team goals as it relates to revenue & portfolio growth, asset quality and compliance.
  • Provide other support as needed.

Qualifications and/or Educational Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of commercial bank credit analysis experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) from a 4-year college or university which includes accounting/finance courses or the equivalent combination of education and credit/accounting/finance related experience.
  • Experience using financial spreading software, such as Loan Vantage or Baker Hill.
  • Experience with Small Business Administration guaranty programs a plus.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, have a positive attitude and a commitment to outstanding service.
  • Must be a responsible and independent worker who can interact well with other members of the Commercial Lending Team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, tax returns, business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, laws and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and other forms of communication as may be assigned. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Requisite mathematical skills, communication skills (verbal and written), analytical and reasoning ability, and problem-solving capabilities expected of a credit analyst.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Loan Vantage Loan origination system a plus
